Aim

The deeper comprehension of the concepts of environmental protection and sustainable development as related to the implementation of the processes of urban and regional planning for the optimization of living conditions in a specific area.

Objectives

After successfully attending the course the postgraduate student should be capable of:
  • Conceiving the fact that urban planning and urban space development through land planning and the development of the wider regional space constitute the more general frame of an organized human intervention in the environment
  • Fully understanding that each important human activity which directly influences the surrounding space should be placed in the interdependent processes of planning-designing.
  • Comprehending the fact that the protection of the natural and anthropogenic environment should not only be opposed to but also constitute the basic component of sustainable development of the urban and regional space while urban and regional planning should and can constitute the “vehicle ” for the achievement of this sensitive balance required between two often clashing concepts (protection and development).
