Participants and Admission

The announcement of admission of postgraduate students is published on the website of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Applications, accompanied by the necessary documents, are submitted to the Secretariat of the Department of Civil Engineering, either in paper or electronic form

Graduates from Universities of Applied Sciences in Greece and abroad and in particular graduates of Civil Engineering Departments, as well as graduates of departments of related subjects from universities in Greece and recognized peer institutions abroad are admitted to the MSc “Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development”. Graduates of technical colleges of related subjects are also accepted.

In addition to graduates, students who are in the last year of their undergraduate studies are also entitled to apply. The latter must, instead of a copy of their degree, submit a certificate of analytical grades. Any approval of their application is provisional and will only be finalised if they provide the copy of their degree or certificate of completion within one month of the start of the MSc course.

The selection procedure for the admission of the MSc is completed in September with the adoption of a decision by the Assembly of the MSc.

The application form and the necessary documents for admission to the MSc include all the information required by law for the evaluation and selection of the Postgraduate Students. Of particular importance is the completion of additional information, in particular the degree category, the relevance to the MSc, as well as the information concerning the courses of the undergraduate curriculum which the candidate has successfully completed and which are relevant to the MSc.

The selection criteria for admission are:

  2. The performance in specific undergraduate courses, relevant to the MSc.
  3. The performance in the thesis
  4. Proficiency in at least one foreign language (preferably English). An adequate knowledge of a foreign language is a prerequisite. The level is set by the assembly of the Department of Civil Engineering, in accordance with the Council of Europe’s system, which is accepted by the CEPOL (certificate of good (B2 level) or very good (C1 level) or excellent knowledge (C2 level)). Alternatively, you may submit a degree or diploma from an English-speaking undergraduate or postgraduate programme which demonstrates your competence.
  5. A detailed curriculum vitae of the candidate, listing any additional qualifications (e.g. participation in training seminars, participation in research projects, scientific publications, etc.).
  6. The content of the two required letters of recommendation
  7. The general impression of the candidate during the oral interview. The oral interview is compulsory

In addition to the above documents, the candidate may submit, if available (the following documents are to be submitted either as an exact copy or as a simple photocopy):

  1. Diploma of postgraduate studies at a Greek University or a similar institution abroad.
  2. Doctoral degree from a Greek University or a similar institution abroad.
